Painting Section

I use a 2-part Epoxy paint from Klasscote Industries. This is a high quality paint designed for the RC industry.

PT 17 Stearman

Klasskote Epoxy 2 stage Warbird Colors

Custom Built 5 clylinder Radial Ignition Engine with Supercharger.

Balsa USA 1/3 Scale Sterman covered in Solertex and painted using Klasscote Warbird colors with a Satin hardner to give a slight sheen. This is a special plane as the engine is a handbuilt 5 clylinder radial Ignition engine with a Supercharger and an oil pump that is a unbelivable piece of workmanship.

Balsa USA Ercoupe

Klasscote Epoxy 2 stage paint. Hardner was used 3/4 gloss 1/4 satin to give it the correct look.

I have painted some big planes but this plane is huge and is 3 colors. The paint is a scale reproduction of a real plane even the tail number. I had  the tail numbers cut in vinyl and laid down the white after it dried I put on the Vinyl and then painted the dark blue stripe. Let dry and a then a little heat and then carefully removed the vinyl and we now have tail numbers. Very little decals used just the small stuff like the do not step. The no skid on the wings is from home depot designed for use in bath tubs and steps to create a non skid surface. The grain just happened to be the right size and the overall look was exactly the effect we were looking for. The plane was covered in solartex and then the wood was fiberglassed using .75 cloth and one coat of epoxy. Since the paint is epoxy based this allowed not having to use a fill coat. The fill was done using the primer and all the lines were created using evercote (2 part filler) Evercote is a automotive putty used to fill pin holes and rmove the deep scratch marks when using bondo. Its much more creamy than bondo and sands to a final finish with 120. It is also much lighter than bondo but you still need to use it sparingly as the weight will build up. Much more under the pianting section. Pilot was custom done to look like the owner I will list where to get that done if its something you would like to do on your project.
